This is so weird.. I'm not sure how I feel, I use most of googles services so it's not so bad, but weird. :)
What will google bring to jaiku?
Maybe we will get a decent S40 java client? So I can drop my own project :D
Congrats Jyri, Petteri and the Jaiku team. What fantastic news for you. I am really excited to see what Google helps you achieve from here. Jyri, does this mean a move to the USA?
I just saw the news on TechCrunch... Congratulations! Now hopefully this will mean a Java-Based Jaiku Client (ala Google Mail and Maps) is on the horizon...
Are you just all wishing to be bought by Google or Microsoft, and nothing else than that? - uh, whatever makes you happy. And if this brings happiness to the Jaiku creators, then more power to them. I can imagine it will, or they wouldn't have done it.
But now what @Willumsgaard20? We don't even know what impact this will have on the Jaiku community so why start complaining? In the meantime, we can be happy for the creators and team behind this great site as their vision and all of their hard work has paid off!
@Willumsgaard20: If I'm not happy with how Jaiku develops in the future, I'll leave. Big deal. What will Google own then? I like Jaiku, and I like the Google products I'm using. I suspect I'm going to be happy to stay. If Jaiku had been bought by a crappy company with crappy products, that would be a different story.
@zahcarye - has their vision and hard work paid off?? How do you know, unless you're only thinking in terms of MONEY?
@silpol - thanks! We will all soon gather in a brand new community!
@Willumsgaard20... It's cool (basically) because:
a) Jyri seems to like it.
b) A european startup is taking media covering because it's a "great acquisition". When was the last time you hear this?.
c) Google has almost ∞ resources and these ones would help to improve Jaiku. I'm sure Jyri will do the best to protect jaiku user's interests.
d) I think the buy is more a recognition of jaiku's value (and the hard work put on it) that the twisted malign money earning you see on the transaction.
e) There's nothing wrong with earn money.
f) I don't see myself like a user selled to Google.
@spongefile - I am also using more Google products, but I am not happy with the general development. The influence by a potential monopoly can be very bad, though their products are not that crappy!
@Willumsgaard20: The users also benefit from this. Now it's much easier for Jaiku to develop additional cool features that would have been impossible before.
@Willumsgaard20: It doesn't necessarily have to involve money... You can see their excitement in the recent posts that they've made. If they weren't happy they wouldn't be showing such enthusiasm about this announcement...
And don't forget that Jaiku is a business venture. They didn't put this site together simply because they were bored! The goal of any business is to provide a service that is valued and to have that translate into gains.
@atigorcia - a) OK, I guess he like it, or at least the money b) Should we be that proud that a european startup is acquired by some of the big big AMERICANS? c) Jaiku is already the best microblog-forum, much better than f.i. Twitter and Pownce. d) Do Jyri know our interests? e) No, it is not wrong. I understand Jyri and Petteri in a way, but I don't understand why so many of you are yelling! f) I see my self like a user being sold to Google!
@spongefile - are you sure, we users will profit? I prefer to spread my use of services between more vendors to prevent dependency of one. Now I have to consider to change microblog, calender, email or docs&spreadsheats to someone else, with all the efforts that will cost!
@merlyn - and I don't think theres any reason why any non-American company, community or whatever should be especially proud of being acquired by a US company
@Wumsaargd0 first it's aitorgarcia not atigorcia and a) I feel your inference here.. so sad b) We should be proud of any european startup recognized as a good option c) You can always improve yourself (yes you too...) d) Jyri is a good boy and yes, he knows my interests because since I wrote him a letter past Christmas e) Because we're happy for Jyri and the rest of the team! f) Ok... so you've the problem...
It would be nice to see how made censurship... willumsgaard had a good point, I hate the idead of google in generel, Jyri could easily have made a business without google involvement
Jyri, im just disappointet, because its not just your software you sold, its ours jaiku streams..
@Willumsgaard We're joining Google because we see big potential in what we're doing - potential that we want to realize as services that our Jaiku users love, and other mobile and Internet users too. We're not planning to disappear: you know we use Jaiku to communicate with many of the people that are personally dear to us. While it's too soon to comment on specific products and our development plans, we honestly believe that together with the engineers who we've befriended at Google we can build great new things that we couldn't do alone.
@Willumsgaard20: Please don't forget Jaiku is not software we have bought and paid for. It's a bit much to be upset about having to rearrange your way of working because you no longer want to use a free service. If you join a dinner party with free beer, but choose to leave because you no longer like the way the party is organized, you can't get mad about the resulting lack of free beer in your life, or the fact that you now need to find a new source of free beer.
@spongefile - is this like a party where you're invited with free bar and buffet? Is not more like a party where everyone contributes with what he can offer, and everyone shares everything, and the site owner sells all the empty bottles the day after??
And censorship isn't inherently wrong. We could all collectively agree that the word "orange" should never be used again. And that wouldn't be wrong... it'd merely be an agreement.
@GrouchoM: Jaiku designed the system to deal with spam, I think four users marking the same item as spam might be enough to (automatically and temporarily?) suspend a user.
@termie - oh, that's new to me. Where you one of them who marked him as a spammer? and has others noticed that willumsgaard "flamed people int plenty of other threads"?
@grouchoM: Come on, the spam function has been used plenty before. That's part of what's kept jaiku pretty much spam free. However, I definitely agree that it's unfortunate that the functionality is used in this way.
Congratulations. I'm a disgruntled Twitter user. I am calling for revolt against Twitter, who refuses to fix bugs, has lousy "in reply to", and is down too much. The slogan is "Mutiny! Migrate! Move to Jaiku!"
Love how Jaiku, judging from this thread, is self-policing and persecuting trolls. Anonymous/pseudonymic trolls is what pollutes TechCrunch, ValleyWag, Justin.tv, etc.
anyway - I have overlooked this current discussion, but can't find anything just resembling spam. Where do all af you, who defend the ban on willumsgaard find his spam? Please, just one example :-)
will somebody also soon mark me as a spammer? I actually also appreciate Jaiku for the good atmosphere. But shouldn't it be allowed to express feelings of the users on a day like this?
@termie - oh, that's new to me. Where you one of them who marked him as a spammer? and has others noticed that willumsgaard "flamed people int plenty of other threads"?
@GrouchoM - The trolls who merely flame and stir up trouble maliciously attempting to disrupt. I am King of Blogocombat. There's a difference between aggressive, brutal debate and lame flaming for vandalistic glee. :^)
@willumsgaard just did'nt like that a european "web 2.0" (called it what you want), came into american hands.. he meant that it was important that not every web service should belong to american global business.. can't really see the spam, trolling in that.
i have cleared the marks users have placed against willumsgaard20 in the interest of continued discussion, if he continues his inflammatory comments against users outside this discussion i see no reason why they would not continue to think him off topic and innapropriate
@GrouchoM It's highly likely that a bunch of users marked @willumsgaard as spam and the system put him on notice automatically. Jaiku has been criticized before on Jaiku, with zero censorship. And I for one read a rather personally aggressive comment of his on another thread, which could easily pissed off several users.
Anyway. All is well now, no? Yay for a little startup growing steadily enough with love and care and persistence to make the big leagues notice. It may not be your cup of tea, but it is a happy valid cup of tea on its own, and deserves a congratulations on that front at the very least.
However, there's a bit of a downside for some people. We're just running a non-smoking campaign Fressis with a little help from Jaiku and the plan is to replace teens cigarette packs with Jaiku in their pockets. The campaign was going super this week as we got our campaign in the Big Brother house and heaps of new registrants.
I understand this a minor, minor issue compared to where you're heading and there's always a risk with mashups, but I'm just desperately trying to figure out what to do... having said all this, I'm honestly really happy for you guys!
@smai We're excited that the Jaiku platform is being used in the Fressis campaign. Please hit me and Petteri with an email and let's see how we can solve the issues you're facing.
Hello again everyone. Petteri has sent an excuse to me via a personal email with the following:
"This is a bit embarrassing for us: people have marked you as a spammer even though you are just expressing your views, and our automatic spam control is reacting. We try to get you back online as soon as possible.
I'm sorry about the trouble!"
And now the ban is lifted, so let's go on with the discussion, but I will call to my fellow discussion partners not to "use the spam mark weapon" - as termie did?
If so termie, when do you think I have been flaming others?
Although I'm in danger of whipping a dead horse here: I went through every comment made by @Willumsgaard20 since September 27 and did not find any flaming or any disrespectful remarks, just an opinionated and passionate debater
@willumsgaard20 - just to correct a small misapprehension on your part - termie didn't mark you as a spammer - a number of users did, which triggered the system's 'well, a lot of people say he is, so he must be' response.
My 2cent:
a. congrats Jyri & Petteri and all for getting a large player to acknowledge your value and the useful, fun and popular app Jaiku has become.
b. I notice that in the blog post noted above you mention that new subs will be on hold for a while.
Can I ask: please please please please please do not require Jaiku users or new users to create a gmail/google-ID to access Jaiku.
While don't "hate" Google, I really resist in having to use their GMail ID for their services (yes I know thats what "powers" Google, but I dont like it). I have one gmail account: purely for mailing lists, and I do not want my personal "posts/messages/thoughts" tied to some Gmail account.
SO, Jaikuistas - please please please enjoy your new partnerships within Google (Dog knows you have earned it!), but do not become a Google app (ala Writley, Google Groups, etc).
Now, back to subject: Being at Jaiku has up to now been a pleasant, funny, interesting experience. I think of Jaiku as my own personal think tank + kindergarden, and I hope Jyri and Petteri manages to keep it that way
@vadsten - one person's 'opinionated and passionate' is another person's 'argumentative and obnoxious'.
For example, @willumsgaard20's comment here: http://ullamaaria.jaiku.com/presence/14153905 is one that I can see people finding quite obnoxious and offensive, while from a different perspective, it could easily be called 'empassioned debate'.
It's all a matter of opinion :)
No matter which side of that particular fence you fall on, it's definitely not spam, and marking it as such in an attempt to silence it is inappropriate behaviour.
@malach - OK, that one with the moon was a little harsh, but taking into account that someone is saying "Goodbye contributers, were going to surfing sunshine etc.", wouldn't that still be emcompassed by the general freedom of speech? And termie told about during some time...
Willumsgaard20: You're welcome :) Now get your butt back on topic. What exactly is it that you fear from this merger? btw - I have to get to bed now. Getting up again in about 5 hrs. But I promise to check tomorrow... Goodnight all - and congrats Jaiku-guys. Please keep this place real - we like it
@vadsten: what I don't wouldn't like is the requirement of a Google ID. The problem is then yet another stream on user content owned and stored in GooglePlex..
And with Google's interesting relationship with privacy, yet another stream of information accessible.
Users? No, Google has users-a-plenty. If they bought it to reduce the players on the field then they'd have bought twitter's users
Microblogging? No, they have orkut
Mobile presence sharing? No, they have zingku which has some way cooler features for that
The Nokia app? Ahhh .. now here's something worth buying. Their gPhone needs an addressbook and why go for a boring addressbook when your phone will have permanent networking? So they bought Jaiku's addressbook .. and got a bunch of non-mobile microbloggers included.
Expect to see Jaiku microblogging discontinued and absorbed into their coming facebook competitor. Expect to see the Nokia App become the addressbook on the gPhone.
"We plan to use the ideas and technology behind Jaiku to make compelling and useful products" .. not 'We plan to continue to maintain Jaiku as it is and just make it better'
@RickMeasham: Orkut? You think that's a worthy example to pit against Jaiku/Twitter/Pownce? I think it is big in Brazil (as I've heard several times), but not really in the US, or Europe (I don't know for sure, but it doesn't hit the radar around here).
Orkut was fairly big in certain circles back in its heyday. Then it died out for the most part, as other services came in, built on its functionality, and basically overwhelmed it - but somehow, stayed popular in south america :)
I guess nobody will know for sure until changes are actually made. I'd be surprised to see Orkut raise its game within the US and Europe, but I have read there are rumours for a big announcement from google about its service at the beginning of November. Orkut is expected to have an open platform a la facebook - but I honestly think they will have a hard time tearing users away from there.
I hope Jaiku won't change too drastically, but I like the idea of integration with other google services.
@RickMeasham: Ah. I had no idea Orkut 2.0 was coming (or is out now?). As for Facebook and Facebook killers... Eh. I'm not on Facebook, nor will I ever be, so a Facebook killer is really not interesting to me.
OK, I'm a little late to this, but... as Finland sleeps, I raise a glass in honor of the team. Well done! It's wonderful to see so many people begin to enjoy what we've been having fun with for a while. Congratulations, Jaiku!
Congratulations from me as well. And thank you HIIT (mainly I thank Mika) as well that I was part of this movement right from the start. However, originally "presence line" feature was suggested by some high school students on our test trials.ThankU4Utoo
To me it seems that Jaiku will thrive if it is introduced to existing communities that gradually start using it. I'm not sure if Google is the best "host" for doing this but anyways this match sure has a lot of potential!
@zenith - agree, hoping Jaiku won't change too drastically. On the other hand I have been calling for more integration and interoperability between social media, so I shouldn't complain to much when some of them are merged into the same family. I will also find it interesting to see how Jaiku will get integrated with gmail.
But I can't deny that this acquisition has motivated me also to have a further look at ZYB and Pownce - but not Twitter.
Morning congratulations to Jaiku Folks from Snow covered Sotkamo. The ground is white up here. Don't pack your ski gear yet for cross-country and downhill. This snow will go away. The estimated time for first snow is 15. october. Global Warming isn't here yet. The snow is here five days earlier.
Congratulations to the Jaiku people from Hungary/Las Vegas (strange I know!)!! It just goes to show, all of us are at the right place. Jaiku now has the proverbial "Google Stamp of Approval"!
@Sebastianlund, yeah, the unknown is always scary, but I look at YouTube and it just got better with Google and not much changed. I can see that instead of being a small was like being in a family and when Jaiku becomes a part of Google, Jaiku will surge. Good or Bad? I think good!

But congrats anyway.

How can the ban on Willumsgaard20 be lifted?
2 years, 1 month ago by GrouchoM
@GrouchoM No idea. Jyri?

Willumsgaard20 has been banned. Is that the future? :-D
2 years, 1 month ago by GrouchoM
Don't do evil LOL
2 years, 1 month ago by silpol
It would be nice to see how made censurship... willumsgaard had a good point, I hate the idead of google in generel, Jyri could easily have made a business without google involvement
Jyri, im just disappointet, because its not just your software you sold, its ours jaiku streams..
2 years, 1 month ago by EsbenThomsen
@GrouchoM the users mark as spam, not jaiku.

Congratulations!
2 years, 1 month ago by aehn
@Willumsgaard We're joining Google because we see big potential in what we're doing - potential that we want to realize as services that our Jaiku users love, and other mobile and Internet users too. We're not planning to disappear: you know we use Jaiku to communicate with many of the people that are personally dear to us. While it's too soon to comment on specific products and our development plans, we honestly believe that together with the engineers who we've befriended at Google we can build great new things that we couldn't do alone.
2 years, 1 month ago by jyri
has the discussion bout the acquisition been stopped by the new censorship?
2 years, 1 month ago by GrouchoM
Congrats! Jyri
2 years, 1 month ago by stevenvanwel
@Willumsgaard20: Please don't forget Jaiku is not software we have bought and paid for. It's a bit much to be upset about having to rearrange your way of working because you no longer want to use a free service. If you join a dinner party with free beer, but choose to leave because you no longer like the way the party is organized, you can't get mad about the resulting lack of free beer in your life, or the fact that you now need to find a new source of free beer.
2 years, 1 month ago by spongefile
@jyri - thanks, I'll mail this to Willumsgaard, who is - momentarily? - banned from Jaiku
2 years, 1 month ago by GrouchoM
if you miss his comments - read http://willumsgaard20.jaiku.com/ , it is still visible there...
2 years, 1 month ago by silpol
The disappearance of the comments by @Willumsgaard20 is the work of our automatic spam watchdog... looks like enough people marked him as a spammer
2 years, 1 month ago by jyri
@spongefile - is this like a party where you're invited with free bar and buffet? Is not more like a party where everyone contributes with what he can offer, and everyone shares everything, and the site owner sells all the empty bottles the day after??
2 years, 1 month ago by GrouchoM
Awesome!
2 years, 1 month ago by Pos3idon
I still say I would have probably done the same, if Jaiku was mine.. But that doesn't mean I'm not worried..
2 years, 1 month ago by Wendelboe
@jyri - do you think he was spamming, and not just answering comments directed to him?
2 years, 1 month ago by GrouchoM
@Jyri me and alot of my contacts have Willumsgaard as a contact.. others should not decide wether or not if I want to read he's streams..
2 years, 1 month ago by EsbenThomsen
@jyri: I would rather consider this as artifact of Jaiku-style-democracy - few readers is enough to silence what seems to be just-opinion...
2 years, 1 month ago by silpol
@silpol excactly! This is not democracy, but censurship
2 years, 1 month ago by EsbenThomsen
@silpol - is the system really working that way? that very few users can silence a user?
2 years, 1 month ago by GrouchoM
If it was considered "spam", yes. However, this wasn't exactly spam.
2 years, 1 month ago by merlyn
And censorship isn't inherently wrong. We could all collectively agree that the word "orange" should never be used again. And that wouldn't be wrong... it'd merely be an agreement.
2 years, 1 month ago by merlyn
I think @Willumsgaard20 jaiku was not spam but.. @silpol "few readers"? Do you know how many users marked it as spam?
2 years, 1 month ago by aitorgarcia
Maybe the system has been working that way all the time. But only when discussing Jaiku it self we see how it can be used for censuring!
2 years, 1 month ago by GrouchoM
@Merly - it seems to me, there was an ongoing - and fair - discussion. why should anyone then mark any of the participants as a spammer?
2 years, 1 month ago by GrouchoM
Is this a new dark side we see of Jaiku?
2 years, 1 month ago by GrouchoM
@GrouchoM: Jaiku designed the system to deal with spam, I think four users marking the same item as spam might be enough to (automatically and temporarily?) suspend a user.
2 years, 1 month ago by lemonad
This is the buttom side of jaiku and its extremely sad.. before i know it, ill be back on klassic IM :-(
2 years, 1 month ago by EsbenThomsen
@groucho - Ask them, not me. I didn't do it.
2 years, 1 month ago by merlyn
@GrouchoM normally there are more passive(read-only) users than active ones, and these can mark as spam too...
2 years, 1 month ago by aitorgarcia
@GrouchoM dark side? oh please!
2 years, 1 month ago by aitorgarcia
anyway, what seemed to be a happy day for the founders of Jaiku turned out to be a day with discussions about censorshop etc.
@lemonad - why do you think that some users marks the participant of a free discussion as a spammer?
2 years, 1 month ago by GrouchoM
he wasn't marked for this discussion, he has been flaming people in plenty of other threads
2 years, 1 month ago by termie
@aitcorgarcia - OK, but isn't strange that this spammer-function is only used, when there's heard some critisism of the Jaiku management?
2 years, 1 month ago by GrouchoM
As others have said congrats! It should be interesting to see what the future brings.
2 years, 1 month ago by coreymcl
@termie - what a bunch of crap, I had him as a contact for 3 months..
2 years, 1 month ago by EsbenThomsen
It has clearly not been the only time spammer has been used. Please don't create problems that don't exist.
2 years, 1 month ago by merlyn
@termie - oh, that's new to me. Where you one of them who marked him as a spammer? and has others noticed that willumsgaard "flamed people int plenty of other threads"?
2 years, 1 month ago by GrouchoM
@GruMhco Again more noise... Do you know when, where and why is the spam function used?
2 years, 1 month ago by aitorgarcia
@grouchoM: Come on, the spam function has been used plenty before. That's part of what's kept jaiku pretty much spam free. However, I definitely agree that it's unfortunate that the functionality is used in this way.
2 years, 1 month ago by lemonad
Congratulations. I'm a disgruntled Twitter user. I am calling for revolt against Twitter, who refuses to fix bugs, has lousy "in reply to", and is down too much. The slogan is "Mutiny! Migrate! Move to Jaiku!"
2 years, 1 month ago by vaspers
Love how Jaiku, judging from this thread, is self-policing and persecuting trolls. Anonymous/pseudonymic trolls is what pollutes TechCrunch, ValleyWag, Justin.tv, etc.
2 years, 1 month ago by vaspers
anyway - I have overlooked this current discussion, but can't find anything just resembling spam. Where do all af you, who defend the ban on willumsgaard find his spam? Please, just one example :-)
2 years, 1 month ago by GrouchoM
@vaspers - which trolls?
2 years, 1 month ago by GrouchoM
On a more positive note, I think @jocke might have been the first to call the merger of jaiku+google :)
2 years, 1 month ago by lemonad
Amazing news and so deserved - well done you guys.
2 years, 1 month ago by lisav
will somebody also soon mark me as a spammer? I actually also appreciate Jaiku for the good atmosphere. But shouldn't it be allowed to express feelings of the users on a day like this?
2 years, 1 month ago by GrouchoM
agree, lemonad!
2 years, 1 month ago by GrouchoM
@termie - oh, that's new to me. Where you one of them who marked him as a spammer? and has others noticed that willumsgaard "flamed people int plenty of other threads"?
2 years, 1 month ago by GrouchoM
@GrouchoM - The trolls who merely flame and stir up trouble maliciously attempting to disrupt. I am King of Blogocombat. There's a difference between aggressive, brutal debate and lame flaming for vandalistic glee. :^)
2 years, 1 month ago by vaspers
More noise.... only @termie defined willumsgaard as a flamer. @lemonad, @merlyn, me and others have said the action was plainly wrong.
2 years, 1 month ago by aitorgarcia
Mark me too..
2 years, 1 month ago by EsbenThomsen
@GrouchoM - I'm against censorship, but I also oppose trolls, baiters, spammers. I don't know what @willumsgaard said or did. I'm new to this thread.
2 years, 1 month ago by vaspers
@willumsgaard just did'nt like that a european "web 2.0" (called it what you want), came into american hands.. he meant that it was important that not every web service should belong to american global business.. can't really see the spam, trolling in that.
2 years, 1 month ago by EsbenThomsen
i have cleared the marks users have placed against willumsgaard20 in the interest of continued discussion, if he continues his inflammatory comments against users outside this discussion i see no reason why they would not continue to think him off topic and innapropriate

2 years, 1 month ago by silpol
Congrats... now, please don't forget the geo add-ons in the api!
2 years, 1 month ago by luistxo
@GrouchoM It's highly likely that a bunch of users marked @willumsgaard as spam and the system put him on notice automatically. Jaiku has been criticized before on Jaiku, with zero censorship. And I for one read a rather personally aggressive comment of his on another thread, which could easily pissed off several users.
Anyway. All is well now, no? Yay for a little startup growing steadily enough with love and care and persistence to make the big leagues notice. It may not be your cup of tea, but it is a happy valid cup of tea on its own, and deserves a congratulations on that front at the very least.
2 years, 1 month ago by spongefile

I always knew you guys where going somewhere and fast... well done !
2 years, 1 month ago by redsoda
This is excellent news guys!

2 years, 1 month ago by Willumsgaard20
Congratulations!!! Jyri, Petteri and everyone!

No doubt Google made a good purchase. Jaiku and its underlying tech platform holds plenty of promise. Well done, guys, and especially: Hyvä Mika!

So does this mean we will see Jaiku integrated on the (presumed) new Google phone?
2 years, 1 month ago by jamesclay
Although I'm in danger of whipping a dead horse here: I went through every comment made by @Willumsgaard20 since September 27 and did not find any flaming or any disrespectful remarks, just an opinionated and passionate debater
2 years, 1 month ago by vadsten
@willumsgaard20 - just to correct a small misapprehension on your part - termie didn't mark you as a spammer - a number of users did, which triggered the system's 'well, a lot of people say he is, so he must be' response.
termie's the one who removed that status.
2 years, 1 month ago by malach
My 2cent: a. congrats Jyri & Petteri and all for getting a large player to acknowledge your value and the useful, fun and popular app Jaiku has become.
I value my privacy (the little I have left).
Discuss/flame as wished.
kiitos, ..b (puts on my flame retardent suit)
2 years, 1 month ago by runningwithbulls
Now, back to subject: Being at Jaiku has up to now been a pleasant, funny, interesting experience. I think of Jaiku as my own personal think tank + kindergarden, and I hope Jyri and Petteri manages to keep it that way
2 years, 1 month ago by vadsten
@vadsten - one person's 'opinionated and passionate' is another person's 'argumentative and obnoxious'.
For example, @willumsgaard20's comment here: http://ullamaaria.jaiku.com/presence/14153905 is one that I can see people finding quite obnoxious and offensive, while from a different perspective, it could easily be called 'empassioned debate'.
It's all a matter of opinion :)
No matter which side of that particular fence you fall on, it's definitely not spam, and marking it as such in an attempt to silence it is inappropriate behaviour.
2 years, 1 month ago by malach
Wow, congratulations indeedy. And hopefully the long-awaited Java client for my SonyEricsson phone is in the works. ;)
2 years, 1 month ago by tulensrma
@vadsten - thnx! :-) @malach - sorry, but termie was the one, who ment I had been flaming during some time, wasn't he?
2 years, 1 month ago by Willumsgaard20
@malach - OK, that one with the moon was a little harsh, but taking into account that someone is saying "Goodbye contributers, were going to surfing sunshine etc.", wouldn't that still be emcompassed by the general freedom of speech? And termie told about during some time...
2 years, 1 month ago by Willumsgaard20
Willumsgaard20: You're welcome :) Now get your butt back on topic. What exactly is it that you fear from this merger? btw - I have to get to bed now. Getting up again in about 5 hrs. But I promise to check tomorrow... Goodnight all - and congrats Jaiku-guys. Please keep this place real - we like it
2 years, 1 month ago by vadsten
@vadsten: what I don't wouldn't like is the requirement of a Google ID. The problem is then yet another stream on user content owned and stored in GooglePlex..
And with Google's interesting relationship with privacy, yet another stream of information accessible.

Mmm .. the more I'm thinking about this whole idea, the more it's smelling like rat doo doo. In Google's words: "We plan to use the ideas and technology behind Jaiku to make compelling and useful products"
What can Google gain from buying Jaiku?

2 years, 1 month ago by jezlyn
@jezlyn: Orkut 2.0 is Google's facebook killer
2 years, 1 month ago by RickMeasham
Orkut was fairly big in certain circles back in its heyday. Then it died out for the most part, as other services came in, built on its functionality, and basically overwhelmed it - but somehow, stayed popular in south america :)
2 years, 1 month ago by malach
I guess nobody will know for sure until changes are actually made. I'd be surprised to see Orkut raise its game within the US and Europe, but I have read there are rumours for a big announcement from google about its service at the beginning of November. Orkut is expected to have an open platform a la facebook - but I honestly think they will have a hard time tearing users away from there.
I hope Jaiku won't change too drastically, but I like the idea of integration with other google services.
2 years, 1 month ago by zenith
@RickMeasham: Ah. I had no idea Orkut 2.0 was coming (or is out now?). As for Facebook and Facebook killers... Eh. I'm not on Facebook, nor will I ever be, so a Facebook killer is really not interesting to me.
