I had figured Guinea Pig might be a little hard to come by in SF. Never pegged Peru for much of a seafood state but hey. Therefore the question has to be - "Was it any good?"
@tulensrma I didn't realise the ceviche was so common in Peru. We have a very similar dish down here in the S.Pacific where the fish is normally cooked by lime juice - and then we had coconut cream, finely chopped vege (like red capsicum, sping onion etc) and finally a decent helping of finely chopped chilli. Mmmmmmm
Ceviche is actually from PerĂº... There's an extremely fish-rich current along their coast, where 22% of the world's fish supply comes from, and historically this current led to the development of ancient fishing/farming culture.
What a useful thread, great to learn all those snippets. For the record, the appetizer was indeed ceviche and the restaurant was Limon on 16th and Valencia.

Coastal Peru has a rich seafood cuisine. The most well-known dish is the ceviche, a spicy soup in which the fish is raw but cooked in lime juice.

Just to clarify, I wasn't part of Jyri's dinner party - it's just that my wife's Peruvian so I'm quite familiar with Peruvian food. :)

Well I reckon a good hunt through the phone book to see if we have any Peruvian restaurants here in NZ might just be needed then.
