Finland switched so rapidly to mobile phones, in the 90s getting a landline to an apartment seemed completely useless so I never had one before. But here mobile coverage is spotty at best, and moreover people expect one to have a landline. Also, U.S. banks and credit card companies sometimes ask for faxes and refuse to take email attachments. So I figure life will be easier if we get one.
@mikie: the same with emails. ppl dont know they can enter the email address they choose to, and fill very strange when they someelse send them emails with their address... lol

Seems it's boiling down to Comcast vs. AT&T...

Yeah, I'm leaning their way. They do employ some friends now too, after the Plaxo acquisition... :)

Why a landline? Only reasons I have one are DSL, 911, and CenturyTel isn't evil.

Faxes are legally binding in many US states since they have sender-id. Just don't tell anybody that you can set the id to whatever you want.

You really don't need a landline. I do without one just fine personally.

Got a triple-play from Comcast, $139/month is far from a bargain though

$139/mo for a landline?! What's included in the price?

Ok, should've googled triple-play Comcast first. :)
