web-question

Hey Jaikuers, if you could have just 1 feature, what would you add to Google's mobile apps (Gmail, Latitude, Calendar, Talk, contacts?)

    ya seriously, jaiku

Jaiku. I'd say Latitude on iPhone, but I'm kinda unimpressed with it and hope Foursquare does Vancouver.

Talk would be great as well, but I know once iPhone OS 3 with push notification comes out, we'll get a load of good IM clients.

Something that tunnels SMS/MMS through chat and email in such a way that end-users can't tell the difference but their monthly bills are magically lower because they're no longer paying for SMS/MMS on top of their flat-rate data plans

The Google Reader iPhone web interface is pretty solid, it think.

Well I'd love to see an S60 app for calendar but I don't think that's the question you're asking?

API for Latitude. + API > FireEagle for the impossible cherry on top :)

Latitude will grow to become more Jaiku-like quite soon. I'm really excited about it. APIs will be a part of it though there's some wrangling about priorities and ownership.

Latitude should also consider being more Dodgeball like :P

@jyri: well I've seen Greader for iPhone and that app is COOL. But I want a version that works with other phones too. Like for example my Sony ericsson G502 =). The gmail-app is very, very good and something similar would be kick-ass.

I believe I would choose Google Talk.

something more like the old Jaiku mobile/S60 app (but with the abiltiy to use WiFi as well as data!)

For me, the important things were; Very low data consumption, presence, location (via Cell tower, so not supper accurate ;)

Voice, internationally, and seamlessly integrated with GTalk's voice chat, in the same way as @adewale suggests for SMS. (BTW, I heard that Skype was for sale. ;-)

@jyri: I tried Google Reader on my iPod Touch and gave up on it within 10 minutes. It is still a painful experience compared to accessing the 'full' reader from a computer. And don't get me started on how laughable Google Reader is on my Blackberry. Google has some awesome BlackBerry apps, like the GMail and Google Maps apps. A proper Google Reader app for the BlackBerry would be huge for me. Viigo has a nice RSS reader for BlackBerries. Go buy them and convert it into a proper Google Reader native client that syncs your read articles back.

Also, do whatever you can to make APIs for Google Maps available to developers. Don't just let them jump to an address -- give them routing APIs, geotagging APIs, etc. Let them display their own stuff on your mobile map application. Think outside the box on what people might be able to do with a rich set of mapping APIs.

To all mobile apps on S60 at least: allow opening links in Opera instead of the default browser.

@gatestone I couldn't agree more, though not really the thrust of this discussion ;)

Calendar please - it would put Google Calendar from being the best on the web, to being far and away the best!

+1 on the suggestion for SMS/MMS through email/chat. If you will, being able to use SMS/MMS as a secondary channel for email/chat so that presence becomes more ubiquious across mobile/stationary devices and contexts.
